Melbourne Strings


Melbourne Strings is a new ensemble initiative formed by the city's most vibrant emerging and accomplished string players. These Melbourne's top classical musicians love to perform and share their music with Melbourne's audience. Melbourne Strings are flexible, performing in different ensembles bringing classical music to the stage in different forms.

Our Next Concert
Distant Light
The debut concert of Melbourne Strings - formed of Melbourne's emerging and leading classical string instrument players to present a program featuring Pēteris Vasks Violin Concerto "Distant Light" and the premiere of Ballade for Strings and Voices by Sandra Aleksejeva-Birze especially written for this event. The concert is curated by Latvian violinist Sophia Kirsanova as part of her research project exploring the distinctive voice of Latvia and is supported by the City of Melbourne, the University of Melbourne.
